Disability Justice & Intersectionality
We are currently building off of an initial 3-part series in the summer of 2021 that was developed in collaboration with consultants David Meyers and Fran Odette. Tangled Arts+ shared their learnings around updating and strengthening their own policies and practices to HR staff from 10 member agencies, who were then guided in reviewing their existing policies through a disability justice lens. Our experience with this series indicated a strong interest among member agencies to build on our understanding of anti-ableism and the need to integrate it more intentionally into our anti-oppression work.
TNC is interested in developing an intersectional approach to advancing disability rights in co-collaboration with community partners and groups working in this movement. This work will promote a re-framing of impediments resulting from people's different abilities as a failure of our community obligations and systems/spaces, rather than as individual deficits.
