Retired Executives for Social Equity (RESE)

We are a group of retired Executive Directors or Chief Executive Officers of non-profit organizations, focused in the Toronto area but with representation across Ontario and beyond (we are not formally affiliated with Toronto Neighbourhood Centres, though some of us worked for TNC member agencies).

Collectively, we have over 250 years’ experience at the helm of non-profit organizations. We are non-partisan, but are definitely ‘political’ - we hope to influence public policy for the public benefit.

While we have diverse experiences, backgrounds, and perspectives, we share these key values:

  • the value of evidence-based decision making;
  • the value of the non-profit sector as an equal partner in community infrastructure, working in respectful partnership with the broader public sector;
  • the value of non-profit delivery of community services, and a concern about the increasing ‘privatization’ of these services;
  • the importance of non-profit community organizations as vital infrastructure in every community;
  • a human rights based approach to public policy;
  • a broad commitment to social, economic, and environmental justice.

Our approach is to support, rather than initiate, campaigns and positions taken by like-minded organizations who are actively engaged in service delivery and public policy advocacy - they are the organizations best situated to lead.  Our ‘value added’ is the experience and independence we bring to these discussions.

Our goal is to encourage public policy that effectively, efficiently, and compassionately addresses the needs of our communities, speaking from the perspective of our collective leadership experience.
